The Porsche badge has become synonymous with some of the world’s greatest looking high performance cars that are lusted after equally by both man and boy, woman and girl. The Porsche motor car is a high end, high performance, road sports car that is as much a status symbol as it is a top quality car although it is most certainly the latter too. The history of Porsche actually dates back to 1900 although it took the company until the 1950s to start producing cars for use on the road as well as the track.
The Volkswagen
The man first responsible for the idea and for the name Porsche was one Ferdinand Porsche who, in 1900 designed the wheel hub motor. In 1931 the Porsche Engineering Office was founded in Stuttgart and although WWII did get in the way somewhat, the end of the war saw production of the first Volkswagen motor car which would in itself blaze a trail that others would attempt to emulate.
The Porsche Name
It wasn’t until 1948 that a racing car first bore the Porsche name. The 356 was built essentially using VW parts by Ferry Porsche and shortly afterwards in 1950 the company became an independent auto factory. Effectively, this was the real beginning of the Porsche road car and within just 6 years the company sold its 10,000th car while also celebrating its 25th anniversary of opening the company’s Engineering Office.
The 911
The 911, which most people consider to be the most famous and most iconic of the Porsche legacy, was first shown at the Frankfurt International Automobile Show in 1963 with production starting in 1964. The 911 Turbo was first produced in 1974 two years after the company went public and various iterations of this behemoth name have been produced ever since.
Porsche Specialist - Kent
For anybody that has bought into the history of the Porsche and owns a model of one of the world’s most famous car brands, then finding a Porsche specialist Kent to maintain, service, and repair their car is important. It will ensure that any repairs are sympathetic to the original car and it will also ensure that original parts are used throughout the repair process.
