Wing mirrors can be extremely exposed and in turn can easily be damaged. Whether that is whilst you are driving, attempting to fit through tight spaces, or simply when you are parked at the side of the road, a wing mirror is one of the most likely parts of your car to get bumped.

They are also far more delicate than many other parts of the car, being smaller in mass and having one side being made of glass, and are therefore likely to be quite badly damaged should they be knocked.

Therefore, it is wise to make sure you do everything you can to avoid them getting hit. Many people still don’t consider folding their wing mirrors in when they are parked, assuming that people won’t get close enough to their cars to cause damage. However, in reality this simple step can not only avoid cars hitting them, but mean they are far less alluring to vandals too. A surprising number of mirrors are damaged not as a result of an accident, but simply as a result of passers by deciding it will be ‘funny’ to knock them off.

Therefore, no matter what area you are in, simply folding in your mirrors can make a huge amount of difference.

It is also often hard to find wing mirrors in scrap yards that match the model and colour, as they are often the first parts of a car to be damaged both before and after arrival, meaning that replacing them is likely to be more expensive. However, there are still sites online where you can pick a wing mirror up for lower prices and visiting specialist sites is going to be far cheaper than going direct to the manufacturer or looking at shops on the high street.

However, a simple bit of forethought could mean that is a scenario you rarely have to worry about.
