Potato agricultural contracting teams will be pleased to hear that potato prices have risen after the recent drop. British farm contractors have a seen an average rise in their potato crops by £6/t as of week beginning 21st January. Prior to Christmas prices were high, with the cold weather making farmers unwilling to release their crops into the market. Following the recent thaws potato supplies have risen, resulting in a period of reduced crop value for farm contractors.

Prior to Christmas prices were high, with the cold weather making farmers unwilling to release their crops into the market. Following the recent thaws potato supplies have risen, resulting in a period of reduced crop value for farm contractors.
However, other European countries such as Belgium, Germany and France, saw a reduction in potato tonnage last year resulting in reduced supplies, increasing the demand in the farm contracting of British potatoes. Furthermore, Russia have announced a reduction in their potato production by nearly 10 million tonnes from the previous year (2009), this is likely to result in increased import from other countries. The usual large exporters include Belgium and Holland, as farm contractors in these countries are also experiencing lower yields this results in increased demand (therefore prices) for British contractors.
Whilst farmers are busy selling their harvested crop, new potato planting are currently occupying many farm contractors throughout the parts of the country which have experienced recent dry spells.
