Today furniture is not a luxury but a
necessity. We see furniture pretty much everywhere right from the time we wake
up in the morning on our own bed to our office tables to our kids school
benches to the parks we visit. It has
become such an integral part of our life that you can hardly find a single
person who has not used any piece of furniture during a single day. Furniture
comes in all shapes and sizes. There are tables, chairs, dining sets, benches,
bar stools. Also they come in plastic, iron, aluminum, wood different kinds of
materials. There is also room specific furniture. The definition of furniture
is movable items in a room necessary or convenient for living or working, it is
also extended to include draperies, mirrors, rugs, lamps and other furnishings.
As we look back in the
history of furniture, we can see that probably the first pieces of furniture in
demand were chest, stool, table and bed. Egyptians, Asians, Greeks and Gothic
were the pioneers in this area and today’s furniture styles are influenced from
them. The carved, engraved with ornaments, heavy designs are typical of those
era.
There are many different styles of furniture:
antique, Victorian, contemporary, leather, medieval, colonial, and modern.
While wood and metal
dominated American furniture design historically, plastic and fiberglass slowly became a visible furniture material by the
early 1950s.At the same time; electronics began invading the home, dictating
furniture shapes and room configurations that included not only an almost
universally black-skinned television but various black electronic gadgets, each
with its own specific LED lights. The introduction of these new furnishing devices
were followed closely by computers, and large screen televisions, mostly wood
finished.
Throughout history the functional and
decorative aspects of furniture have been influenced by economics and fashion .From
ancient times to the contemporary era, furniture design and manufacturing has
been an expression of culture and civilization bringing furniture above and
beyond the merely functional aspect.
Decorating your living space is an
expression of your personality. You should know what YOU like, what woods and
colors please YOU, what best expresses YOUR individuality. If you like a
neutral, quiet, uncluttered contemporary feeling for your home, you will
probably not be comfortable in a casual, colorful country-cluttered environment.
“Great furniture does so
much to complement a pretty garden. And the furniture you choose for a balcony,
patio, poolside or any other room is just as important as what you buy for your
indoor rooms” says landscape architect Maria Smithburg, of Artemisia, in
Chicago.
You have choice when you are buying
furniture: First choice is go straight to the mall, grab something that is
suitable for your dining, lounging and seating requirements.
Second Choice: Go online and search for your favorite
furniture on a furniture etailers website, this will save you time and money as
there are lots of deals offered online and the best part is you can order from
the comfort of your home
Furniture for your backyard or patio lives
in much harsher environment than that of the indoor ones. Inadequate quality of
the furniture cannot withstand water, sun and temperature swings. Usually the
furniture you buy from specialty stores will be able to handle different
weather conditions, but just long it will last depend on its quality, maintenance
and the style it brings to your home.
