Time magazine has taken out the list of 100 Most Influential People. The magazine describes this list as, In our annual TIME 100 issue we name the people who most affect our world. The list has been divided into the categories of Leaders, Heroes, Artistes and Thinkers. Chetan Bhagat, the famous author of the generation Y, who is noted for his candid writing style and being youth icon, has been ranked number 21 in the list under the category of Artistes.

Bhagat, the best selling author of India at the moment, is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Delhi. He has worked as an investment banker during which he started writing. Later on he decided to quit his lucrative job which was taking him to the peak of success, but for him following his passion was more important than monetary and professional success. Till now he has written his four best selling novels, Five Point Someone, One night at call center, The three mistakes of my life and recent Two states. His works have also been utilized in Bollywood.

Other Indian notable personalities ranked in 100 most influential people of the world are Dr. Manmohan Singh, as 19th in the category of Leaders. Perumalsamy Namperumalsamy an Indian ophthalmologist who specializes in diabetic retinopathy, Sachin Tendulkar,  Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Rahul Singh, the Indo-Canadian paramedic have been selected in the category of Heroes in the ranks 6, 13, 16 and 22 respectively. Atul Gawande, American based doctor and journalist has been ranked 5 and Amartya Sen has been ranked 20 and Sanjit Bunker Roy, social activist and educator ranked 22 in the category of Thinkers.

For Bhagat, success is all about living life in ones own way. I don't regret my decisions. When I left my job, I was in a senior position. I could afford a BMW, go to foreign trips, but I had to choose one way so I sacrificed the luxury and chose my passion. My colleagues have bought bigger cars, but they get stuck in the traffic jams, even I do with my smaller car. So what the difference? Bhagat quips. Success varies from person to person. For some, success is working hard just to afford a bigger house and a bigger car. For some, success is all about living life in their own way. Its fair enough either way, is what he feels about success.

While talking about Bhagat in the TIME magazine, A.R Rahman, legendary musician writes, Many writers are successful at expressing whats in their hearts or articulating a particular point of view. Chetan Bhagats books do both and more.
